A slow burning thriller which took me a while to get onto but then quite enjoyed.

Littleport, Maine. It’s where the rich go every summer and where Avery has ended up, following the tragic death of her family in a car crash. She isn’t rich but spends the summers there working and partying with her best friend Sadie. But when Sadie is found dead Avery is determined to discover the truth even if that means opening old wounds.

So on the negative side I found the alternate different timescales quite confusing, with only a year’s difference I kept getting muddled up and as a consequence of that it took me a while to invest in the plot. On the plus side, I LOVE this author’s style of writing, it’s beautiful and evocative and the pages were a pleasure to read. The plot really heightened towards the end of the book, and I did not see the way it was headed at all.

My first book by this author, and it won’t be my last.
