The Last House Guest by Megan Miranda is set in the small coastal town of Littleport, Maine and focuses mainly on the character of Avery, a Littleport Resident. Her closest friend, Sadie, a visitor to Littleport during the summer months is found dead and her death is ruled as a suicide but Avery has her doubts. Secrets and lies at every turn. Avery is determined to uncover the truth.
The Last House Guest is told in two timelines, one in the past on the day of Sadies death and the other in the present day. I did find this to be confusing at times, not always sure which of the timelines we were in at that moment, pulling me from the story.
I found most of the characters unlikeable, including Avery, which was more of a problem as she was the narrator. It also made it hard to feel sympathy where it ought to have been felt.
I did enjoy the easy flowing style of writing and there were some sections which I found to be beautifully descriptive.
There were quite a few twists and turns that I did enjoy but overall I found the pace a little too slow for me.
