I enjoyed this book more than her previous 'bestselling' debut 'All the Missing Girls' which I found jumpy and awkward to read.
The last House Guest is also set on the rocky and picturesque Maine coastline. Local Avery Greer manages holiday properties for the affluent Loman family who spend their summers in Littleport. The Lomans took Avery under their wing and gave her a home and job after her grandmother died as she had previously lost her parents in a car accident. Sadie Loman and Avery were BFFs but Sadie's body was found at the bottom of the cliff near their home during an end of season party.
The story alternates between Summer 2017 when Sadie died and Summer 2018 when Littleport prepares to host a memorial ceremony for her.
The plot is good (although the twist at the end is rather unbelievable). However, I couldn't identify clearly with any of the characters and found that I was therefore reading the book rather superficially instead of being engrossed.
