I had never read a book by Megan Miranda before - or indeed, even heard of her for that matter - but I am so glad I came across her.

The Last House Guest is a chilling thriller about a group of people, all with very different back stories and reasons for being at the hotel when they were, who stay at a remote hotel (which boasts about its lack of WiFi or Internet in its brochure) for an entire weekend as an extremely heavy snow storm rages outside. During this time, no one is able to come or go, and at first, this is fine... until the first body appears. The guests soon become suspicious that foul play was involved and their suspicions are confirmed when the next body is revealed. It becomes clear that someone in the group is a murderer and over the course of the weekend, they all try to work together to figure out who it is - and inevitably pointing the finger at each other on several occasions, whilst also dealing with their own previous problems by themselves. By Monday morning, there has been a total of five deaths and fortunately, once the police arrive, the murderer is soon discovered.

This book had me racing to turn the pages so that I could find out who it was - usually with murder mysteries, I am able to figure out who the murderer is, but this time, I was misled and did not know who it was until the evidence came to light. The backstory that came with the murderer - and, in fact, all the other characters - was also brilliant and made me immediately forget any doubts I may have had about the murderer's capability of being the murderer. All in all, it was a brilliant novel with a great plot and a sneaky twist at the end and all the loose ends were tied up neatly, but believably. Would definitely recommend!!
