I read the first few chapters of this on the Readers First website and I was immediately drawn into the story so I was overjoyed to win a copy in exchange for an honest review. The last house guest follows the story of Avery, a young woman who lives in a small coastal town in Maine and works for one of the rich families who visit during the summer managing their holiday properties. Avery was good friends with their daughter Sadie but one year ago Sadie was found dead after an apparent suicide and now a year later the police are beginning to suspect that foul play was involved and that Avery has something to do with it. Mysterious break-ins are also happening all over the town and Avery feels as if she is being watched. Is someone trying to frame her and is the real killer after her as well…

This was an enjoyable thriller though not as fast paced as I was expecting and I liked that the book switched between the past and present. The author really takes her time to develop the characters and the setting and I could really envisage the town of Littleport and it was almost like a character within itself. The writing was very atmospheric and I loved how the mystery slowly unravelled as I was reading and the characters were interesting though I didn’t feel very close to any of them except maybe Avery and I didn’t like how she was treated by the rich Loman family. I wasn’t sure if I liked the ending but on the whole this was a decent book and I would definitely read more books by Megan Miranda.
