I’m writing this review at 23:50 on a Monday night, so let’s hope my brain can form the words I need to have to convey my feelings towards this book. In all honesty, I enjoyed the book, suspense was built adequately and there was a sense of mystery maintained throughout. No one likes a mystery that ends too soon. Avery is loveable and relatable she’s not perfect, and there’s always a inkling that maybe it was her all along. The idea of a weird sort of divide between this girl and many of the other characters adds an extra layer of mystery because can she really trust anyone she knows. I do take issue with a couple of things the first being I knew “who dunnit” from the sixth chapter which in a thirty chapter book is a little disheartening. Additionally, none of the side characters really mattered, they all had trivial meanings for the plot and were ultimately just there.
The final issue I have is that a lot of the evidence ends up not really mattering and it’s almost unsatisfying.
Due to this I couldn’t give it more than 3 stars, which is a shame.
