I really enjoyed this book. It flowed really well and after a slow start (but this was more because I had a hectic week with hardly any time to read), I ended up reading the majority of it in one sitting as the story kept me hooked.
The story is set in the Maine town of Littleport on the coast and is told from the perspective of Avery Greer. The plot is based around the town and a tragic night that started with a party and ended with the death of Avery's best friend Sadie Loman. The rest of the book is spent unravelling the truth of that night and how there were a lot of secrets.
What I liked about the book was that the "who dunnit" wasn't really predictable. There were plenty of suspects and I liked that I didn't guess too early on which sometimes ruins the story. I also loved the descriptions of the town.
Having said this, what makes my review not a 4 or 5 star is the fact I think there were a lot of wasted opportunities. There was a cast of really good characters but I don't feel like some of them were developed enough. I didn't feel a strong emotional connection which any of them. I also think Megan Miranda has a great ability to build tension and create cliff hangers, but I do not think any of them lasted long enough to create a great thriller effect. Once the cliffhanger happened, it was quickly solved or the story moved on and I think the tension could have been more powerful. I also think that some of the details and secrets revealed about the night of the party were not completely solved which left me not feeling like the story was 100% complete.
