Littleport, Maine is a small fishing community for half of the year and for the other half it becomes a holiday destination for the rich. The locals and the holidaymakers don't really mix but there is one exception. Local girl Avery becomes friends with the daughter of one of the rich families and for ten years they are firm friends each holiday season and share everything with each other, from clothes, to phone passwords, cars etc.
This all comes to an end after a party when Sadie is found at the bottom of a cliff, dead.
Avery is convinced, despite what the police say, that Sadie's death was a suicide and spends her time trying to investigate how Sadie really did die.
The more she digs into what happened, the more it appears that she herself had something to do with the death and she needs to both clear her name and convince everyone that this was no suicide or accidental death.
The book is quite a page turner and the reader may have mixed feelings about what actually did happen and in the final pages, we learn the unsavoury truth.
