Loved it
Some other reviewers have appeared to find this book confusing, owing to the split time format, but I enjoyed this element, and once I got used to it, thought it added to the mysterious feel of the novel.
The writing was very in-depth and descriptive. Whilst I thought this was great for getting to know our characters (and certainly serving to make me more emotionally invested in what was already a heart-wrenching story), I thought it led to a somewhat ‘clunky’ narrative in places. This, however, is a minor blemish.
I do not want to give away spoilers on this one but I do really admire how the author addressed issues like grief, suicide and murder with a dignified grace some authors lack. Despite the bleak subject matter there are even some flecks of humour throughout which are to be commended.
