The Last House Guest is a fast paced and twisty thriller, set in a small Maine town, with chapters skipping between past and present. I didn't know what to expect when I first picked up this book, but I think this was actually a good thing and only increased my enjoyment of it all the more. I really enjoyed this one - I read a lot of thrillers and this still managed to surprise me and keep me guessing all the way through. I thought that the Maine setting was fantastic, really atmospheric and well described. The format of the book (present and past chapters) works well too, and the characters are interesting and varied. I would recommend this to anyone that likes a thriller where you can't guess exactly where it will go or what the ending will be.
