After having read the synopsis, I felt this title had some legs on it to be a brilliant mystery thriller, however I'm sad to say that I didn't feel it fulfilled it's potential. It was a bit of a slow burner, and a lot of time was spent on setting the scene and getting to know the characters, rather than planting any huge suspicions or suspense.

I did really like Avery as a character, and as the protagonist, I found her dialogue and inner thought processes to have been written in a way which was short, snappy, and to the point. This helped in making her own experiences very clear to the reader, which instantly made me feel like I knew her inside and out.

We are introduced to a handful of different characters across two different time points. This relates specifically to the 'Plus One Party' and Summer 2018. Having these different settings helped bring variety into the book, but in places I struggled to make the links between chapters due to the volume of characters introduced. Therefore I was left feeling that the line of enquiry was skipping very quickly before things had been fully explained.

Within the second half of the book, the events definitely did pick up some pace. I found myself much more involved in the story line, and this is when my attention really was grabbed to know what happened. Some twists and revelations were put forward which really did change the tone of the book - which I really liked!

The final events really were not what I had expected, and came out of nowhere! I'm not sure how I felt about this as to whether I was shocked by it, or felt it was hugely out of place from the rest of the events leading up to it. I'm still undecided.

A really mixed review for this one, I wasn't hugely taken aback by the story line, however the way in which it was written held my attention to read it within just a few days. I settled on a three star review on Goodreads, and would be open to reading some of Megan Miranda's previous work in the future.
