This book, with it’s simple yet haunting front cover, captivated me from the very beginning. The poetic, thought provoking verse drew me in immediately and the well observed portrayal of the ever so special bond between grandparent and grandchild left me wanting to read more.

Initially, we meet an ageing grandfather, changed by the burden by a long kept secret. A flashback gives us an insight into the horrors he endured, on that fateful day in 1945 when a nuclear bomb was unleashed upon Hiroshima. A tale of bravery and regret and a reminder that life can be forever changed in the blink of an eye.

Although the subject matter of this book is unarguably harrowing, the author’s skilfully crafted prose make for an enjoyable read. I have no doubt that this book will open the eyes of many to the destruction that fell upon Hiroshima that day.
