This is a beautiful story with illustrations throughout. It is a story about a young boy, now a grandfather and the aftermath of the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima during the Second World War. Ichiro tells his story, to his granddaughter. I haven't read many books set during the Second World War but this is definitely a special tale because it is one that we probably don’t hear about often and I'm so glad to have had the opportunity to read it. Truely heartwarming, I found it a very difficult book to put down and read it in only a few sittings. The use of the paper cranes to make at the end of the book are just the perfect ending to an exceptional story.
This is a book I expect to read over and over again.
