Immediately I felt a connection with;

- the author - reading the author’s note as an opener. This opening is something many of us growing up in the 1980s were aware of, the 3 minute warning prior to a nuclear attack. I remember as the author did how this made such an impact, creating a sense of emotional insecurity. What can you do in 3 minutes? As the author says too little time to get home and embrace all your loved ones.

- Mizuki - the protagonist narrating the modern day first part. I loved the slippery prose of this part, reminding me of haiku.

- Mizuki’s grandfather - who provides his back story from the time when Hiroshima became a place known the world over.

I agree we should never forget. This book needs to be read and shared - history should never be buried when there is something to learn from it. I’m eager to read more and to share my reviews to encourage others to read and keep the message alive. We must all be kind; kindness spreads kindness. Surely?

The book is beautifully illustrated making it a book to treasure. A real bonus is the origami instructions and the coloured paper included to fold your own paper crane.

Loved it - if you haven’t yet; grab a copy and read.
