This book was so beautifully written I could not put it down! Heart wrenching, atmospheric, as if you were going through a horrific journey with them but also so uplifting and beautiful! Truly a wonderful experience!
This is the story of Ichiro, Keiko and Hiro after the atomic bomb is dropped on their town of Hiroshima by the Americans in 1945 and their subsequent fight to survive and overcome. The devastation of the landscape is coupled with the decimation of the people. A fearfully horrific story yet filled with love, hope and bonds. And lastly the bond between friends and grandparents to grandchild.
I loved the Haiku poetry dialogue which I have come across before and the wonderful surprise tucked into the back of the book! One of my favourite reads so far this year!
