The way this book was written is something I've never seen before. It mixes narrative and poetry to give each section of the story it's own character and rhythm, which was really effective in the storytelling.
With it being a story within a story and having the different perspectives from Mizuki and also from her grandfather, it was almost like sitting listening to my grandparents telling their story. You hear and watch historical programs on the Hiroshima bombs, usually coming from a more factual perspective, but to read it as if you were experiencing it there and then is something quite powerful and moving. It certainly made me think about things we may take for granted. I really enjoyed this book and it does make you want to learn more about it. Would definitely recommend this book.
