Hiroshima, 1945. This is a beautiful story in such a painfully sad time. The main character is Ichiro, and his thoughts and actions are detailed as the story progresses, in real time and then back and forth in history. His pain, both physical and mental are so real and I was torn between savouring the lines and wanting to move on to see what happened next. Such devastation on so many, everyday life torn apart and the repercussions rippling out. The strength of the mind, what a person can do for preservation of life. The style of writing is captivating, without any confusion about where you are in the story, not easy with multiple voices and eras.
