This book was phenomenal from start to finish. Mizukis' POV is written in the style of haiku verses, with beautiful red circles. There are illustrations interspersed throughout the text, which breathes life into the characters, and captures at least a little of the horror the people of Hiroshima went through. I feel the author manages to capture the surreal aftermath of this strange new weapon whilst showing the human tragedy the survivors had to deal with.
It is heart-rending, and I needed to take frequent breaks during Ichiros' POV due to the emotional effect on me.
I will recommend this book to everyone, and would give it more than five stars if I could! I really feel this is it; The Book of the Year.
