This is that rare book which touches your soul more than you thought possible.

I know very little about the events of Hiroshima, other than what is mainstream information. Yet that didn't matter, as this books doesn't attempt to debate who was wrong or who was right, it's much more than that.

It's a story which highlights all the good and bad things that make up a society. There is love, hope, guilt, fear, sadness, promises...I could go on.

We witness the after effects of the bomb through the eyes of little more than children and see the devastating impact it made upon entire lives. Whilst the story is one of trauma, there is also hope to be found...with the use of paper cranes a poignant theme that flows throughout.

The prose is beautifully written and alongside the evocative illustrations ensures "there is magic in books".
