This is a contemporary fiction that is set in two different timelines, Japan in 2018 and 1945 with two narrators that of Mizuki and his grandfather.

In 2018, Mizuki is aware that his grandfather is troubled by his past and reluctantly shares his past to his grandchild.

Summer of 1945 in Hiroshima in Japan, Mizuki's grandfather recalls the horrible account of the nuclear bombing that left him with emotional scars.

I liked how the author had two first person narratives because it makes you have a greater insight of all the characters. The writing styles varies as one is written in short verses and Haikus whilst the other is written in a detailed wider length but both with dialogues and descriptions. The author has done thorough research into the dreadful ordeal of the nuclear bombing in Hiroshima. There are ink illustrations in red, white and black.

The front cover has an interesting image of the Japanese flag and two Japanese people, which helps visualise the setting. It also has origami paper and instructions to make a paper crane at the back of the book.
