This book blew me away. With such a painful subject matter at heart, it would be easy for it to seem glib, whatever was written. Yet the author handles this with delicacy, respect and an honest representation that is brutal in its beautiful way, and beautiful in its brutality.

I'm not ashamed to say this book made me cry on more than one occasion, and that I wanted to read it again as soon as I had finished, as it had had such an impact on me.

Because of the lay out and the relaxed writing style this has used, it would be an ideal learning tool for children learning about the realities of war, and I will certainly be encouraging my son to read it when he reaches that stage in his education.

There aren't words to truly do justice to the book itself, or the space in the world it fills.
