“Our memories weigh Heavy on our soul like leaves On a dying tree”
The beginning of the book is wonderfully written, we start off in modern day Japan. A grandchild talks to his/hers grandfather, the story is set out as short sentences, to the point, direct. It doesn't need much to set the scene. A grandfather with a heavy heart full of loss and guilt. The confession he so desperately needs someone to remember.
We are taken back to 1945 just before the atomic bomb is dropped on Hiroshima. Two friends hanging out, it's just another ordinary day for them, but then, that heart wrenching moment as the author describes the moment the B-29 bomber flies over head. I honestly can’t believe that’s where the sample stops.
