The opening of this book immediately pulled me in. A poem. I read the first few pages several times, and this is before the story really starts and I was captivated. The story begins in Hiroshima on 6th August, the day the nuclear bomb was dropped on the city.
Already the characters are strong. Grandad, locked in the grief of losing his wife, the only person he had shared his guilty secret with.

I was attracted by the title of the book. I already know about the peace park in Hiroshima and one thousand crane. I’m longing to read the rest of this book, I’m not expecting it to be an easy read, but a compelling read.
