I loved this book so much I read it in one sitting! It opens in 2018 where a boy is talking to his Grandfather about his childhood during the war. The book then flashes back in time to the day the atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, and we follow the Grandfather in the immediate aftermath of the explosion, as he battles to look after his best friends sister.

I loved how this book was set out, the poetry for the present and prose for the past was such and interesting way to structure the book but it really worked. I also loved the illustrations throughout the book. They were very simple- using only black, white and red but made such a dramatic impact in the book.

The story was so emotive. I was immediately drawn in and could not put the book down. I'd recommend it to anyone!
