This story drew me in as it was ww2 related and I find the subject interesting especially as there is so much to learn from it, far more than what you are taught at school. It is especially interesting to read tales based on prospective from those who were left behind and how the war changed their lives.

The style at the start of the book was rather interesting and makes you wonder what the grandfather could of done to make him feel their grandchild may no longer care for them. His need to keep his story alive is relatable as for many who lived during the conflict have since passed on their stories being lost to history.

Just for the first few pages of the grandfather’s story you see the total unsuspecting nation of what happened at Hiroshima, not so much the bombing itself as that was to be expected during wartime but just the nature and devastation it caused changing so many lives and brutally obliterating others.
