A really powerful evocative young adult novel about Hiroshima told from present day Japan to the day the bomb dropped in August 1945. The use of prose, Haiku, and stunning illustrations by Natsko Seki make it a wonderfully rich emotive novel without being sentimental. While this might seem a really depressing subject matter but it was incredibly uplifting. It has themes of guilt, forgiveness, love and the power of hope.
The paper crane is an important part of the story and I loved that at the back of the book were instructions to make your own origami crane with the paper provided.
I loved all the characters in the novel they were so well written they had a distinct voice. I was transported to Japan and all the horror of the Atomic bomb. This novel really moved me and I feel it's an important book to read.
