This book which is a fairly quick read, is one which touches you and leaves you in thought about it, long after the last page is reached. Although based on a really awful time in history, the book is inspiring and full of hope.

The book is the story of Mizuki's grandfather and what happened him after the bomb was dropped on Hiroshima. He was with his friend Hiro, when the bomb came down and in the frantic aftermath the two of them search for Hiro's little five year old sister. After finding her Mizuki's grandfather is left looking after her, but in his attempt to get her to safety, he becomes separated from her. He leaves paper cranes everywhere he looks for her with his details on and hopes that one day they may be reunited, but it seems as it is not to be and he struggles the rest of his life coming to terms with this.

I think this is such an amazing book and lovely to have an origami paper crane in the back of the book that you can complete yourself, such a great finishing touch.
