Full of love and guilt, this hiroshima tale will leave that feeling at the bottom of your stomach.

Mizuki is worried about her grandfather, once her grandmother passed he loses his spark and is clearly troubled by something. That is when he tells us his Hiroshima tale. Hiroshima, August 1945 - the day the nuclear bomb was dropped on the city causing true devastation we are told of the grandfather's horrifying experience and why its haunted him ever since.

This was such a beautiful book parts written in verse, others written as prose and stunning illustrations to emphasise how harrowing the Hiroshima bombings were.

For such a heavy subject the plot is so simple yet holds so much greif, love and hope. This book delivered exactly what I thought it would pure emotion and it's done in such a thought provoking way that will stay with me forever.

I think the important message from this little novel that even in the darkest of moments there's always hope to help us through.
