Ichiro promises his friend, Hiro, he will look after his five year old sister, Keiko, when a bomb drops on their city, Hiroshima, in 1945. The tale starts in 2018 when his grandchild Mizuki asks what is bothering him. This is written in a poetic way. I've never seen a story presented like this before. The drawings are so simple, yet stunning, and the cover suits the story. The haukis are beautifully written, so it flows really well. I could not put this down. It puts life into perspective. It also questions what you would do in Ichiro's circumstances - very thought provoking. I would recommend to all readers, because it does not fit the typical war genre. Sure, it is harrowing, but it is about never giving up hope.
