This is without a doubt one of those books that everybody should read - a story of courage, tragedy, hope, despair, friendship.
Written in a combination of free verse, haiku and story with illustrations, even the author notes of this book drew me in. I personally enjoyed the middle section of this book which was written in the more traditional story way - I found that although well written I didn’t connect as well with the verse and haiku.
Inspired by true tragedy that tore through Japan we follow the story of Ichiro and his search for somebody he lost. I absolutely love the theme and meaning of the paper cranes - if you’re looking for a story of hope, pick this one up.
