I really enjoyed this story. I didn't think I would as much as not one to read books about wars etc. But it really pulls at your heart strings.
Mizuki is worried about her grandfather as he seems very troubled by something. She is very worried and asks him what is troubling him.
He explains that he has kept a secret for many years of a promise that he couldn't keep he starts to tell her the problem and let's her make up her own mind about him.
He was caught up in a nuclear bomb attack in Japan in August 1945 and he made promises to his family and friends to keep them safe but as the story gets you told you realise what happened to him and wether or not he was able to keep this promise.

It was a gorgeous book.with beautiful illustrations and you see how much of a big part paper cranes play.
And the ending will.bring you to tears.
A really beautiful book.
