The last paper crane is such a moving and emotional novel which is set in the aftermath of Hiroshima, it is hard to describe this book without giving too much of the story away. It is told from the perspective of Mizuku who is wanting to help her grandad Ichiro

The author has written the story using a beautiful mixture of prose and dialogue and poetry and has written about such a harrowing topic in a very sensitive and delicate way whilst still conveying the haunting tragedy that happened on that dreadful day in 1945 when the bomb was dropped on the people of Hiroshima. I felt that I learned a lot about what happened on that day from reading the book that I didn't know already and that even though this book is aimed at young adults it would make a good text for all ages to learn about the history of this event.

This is such an emotional and heart wrenching read and a book that will stay with me for a long time and haunt me after reading, such a powerful and enlightening read. Praise to the author Kerry Drewery for her attention to detail throughout and all the extra touches like the amazing illustrations and the addition of a paper origami crane at the end of the book, she really did think of everything to engage the reader and to educate them of the events of this tragedy.
