This book gives me mystery vibes. Most of the books I read do not have family around for long or they are not mentioned at all. I feel like the father could have been in a gang or could have stolen a lot of money from a mafia/gang. Maybe the mother and her son discover a horrible secret together and plan to leave, who knows.
