A Slow Burner

I wasn't too certain about this book when I read the First Impression. So much so I wasn't of a mind to buy it. However, my local Library got it as an ebook and as that is my preferred medium these days, I took the opportunity to borrow it.

Alas, the book, to me never really got going. Every chapter had an element of what happened in the past and then switched midway to the present. At times it was very difficult to follow with it swapping about. I am used to this method of writing but generally it stops after the first 6 to 8 chapters. This continued for the whole book.

I did however, like the way the characters were formed.

I do like the Scandinavian books like Henning Mankel, Jo Nesbo and Camilla Lackberg to name a few but I could not rate this one up with those.

The ending was a total surprise to me especially as it occurred in the last two chapters, leaving an unexpected twist in the tail.

On the whole a slow burner.
