The last snow is a Scandi noir novel written by Sina Jackson and translated into English by Susan Beard. It is so well described that the landscape and characters could be visualised and believed. Liv lives with her extremely controlling father Vidar and her teenage son Simon. Vidar isn't popular among the villagers. He has a past that has caused upset and long-standing grudges. He doesn't allow his family the freedom that any normal family takes for granted. Each chapter starts with Liv and her promiscuous lifestyle and moves forward to now. Liam and Gabriel are two brothers who are known troublemakers in this desolate area. Liam is determined to turn his life around for the sake of his young daughter although Gabriel is making it difficult for him to change his ways. The lives of these two families are never far apart. Well written believable characters that kept me hooked to the end.
