Liv, her son Simon and her father Vidar live in a small village in Sweden, despised and talked about by the neighbours the whole family are heartily disliked.
Although like a lot of outcasts they are useful to fuel the gossip mongers who all seem to agree that Vidar through his wily schemes over the years has amassed a large "secret" fortune.
When someone whom he has wronged from the past decides it's payback time the tool of choice is two local. No good brothers called Gabriel and Liam, but things go badly wrong and all their lives are thrown into chaos.
This was so different to a lot of thrillers.
The whole cast all seemed to have flaws, they weren't just separated into "goodies" and "baddies" I actually liked quite a few, even some of whom would outwardly seem the worse characters.
I especially cared about Liam, Juha, Liv and Simon, their life experiences didn't give them much of a chance to succeed at life and I think that's what the story was trying to build up, how different backgrounds can affect who we become.
A wonderful, slow burn, meandering tale that was a brilliant read from beginning to end.
Never read this author before but certainly one to watch out for if this is the quality of her work.
A great addition to the Scandi-noir genre.
