I really enjoyed this read. This is a family thriller, murder mystery set against the backdrop of a quiet town where many old grudges are held. I loved the writing of this and it is an excellent translation from Swedish. You would never know this has been translated. The descriptions of the places and people are wonderfully detailed. The pace of this story is quite laid back and steady throughout which I really liked.

The only reason I can't give this 5 stars is I didn't like that some questions went unanswered. I did also find it a bit odd that every chapter begins with a short section on what happened in the past. This was good for the first few chapters but then it became so clear how this interacted with the modern day story line that it felt a little pointless.

This book did keep me guessing until the very end and I didn't see the ending coming at all. I would highly recommend this book and I will definitely be checking out Stina Jackson's previous novel as well as keeping an eye on future works.
