I liked the first impression and the storyline seemed interesting. Having read it, I can confirm that it is very well written and a lot of planning and effort has been put into it. It's also got a few page turning moments and an unexpected twist at the end. The characters are very realistic and there's a lot of flipping back and forth between the past and the present. If asked to identify any major flaws I would genuinely struggle. Having said that, for some reason I never really got into the story and it took me much longer to read than a book this size normally would. As mentioned above, I fully acknowledge that this is a worthwhile effort so the only reason I can think of for this is simply difference in taste. Even the best books can't please everyone so maybe the book and my preferences just didn't 'click'. But I would definitely not recommend against reading it because I think most people will really enjoy it and all that praise can't be unjustified. That's not to say that I didn't enjoy it, but if I were to grade it according to my own taste I'd probably give it three stars. If I were to be objective, however, I think it deserves four. I will definitely check out her other book, the Silver Road and I'd like to thank Readers First for the free copy
