Thankyou to Readers First for an advanced reader copy of this book. Overall, I was pleased with this book – it is fairly well written and the author has a real talent for describing the Swedish landscape which really helped me to visualise myself into the scenery of the book. The book starts off really well – you get a decent glimpse into all of the main characters and there was already a sense of the menace and suppressed rage and violence that permeate the entire book. For me I felt the story took a while to get going – it was sort of a slow boil and, because the story jumps around rather a lot between past and present it is sometimes tricky to identify where all the events are going and remember how they are interlinked. The translation is word-perfect and really makes for easy and smooth reading. There are some bits that are quite graphic and might be disturbing for some readers but I won’t go into detail as I try not to include any spoilers in my reviews. In the end, although I really enjoyed the book and read it really quickly, I felt the ending could have been more developed and essentially, I was left with more questions that I wanted answering. It shows a lot of potential and I look forward to reading more by this author.
