"A monster lives inside him...he feels the monster moving about, wanting to escape."

I was so excited to have the opportunity to read this book with Readers First as I had enjoyed Stina Jackson's previous book, The Silver Road, so much. I was not disappointed!
The story focuses on Liv, who lives in a derelict house with her teenage son, Simon and her domineering and cruel father, Vidar. It is believed that Vidar has a small fortune hidden away. Money made by taking advantage of his neighbours in questionable business deals, all but stealing their land.
Now someone wants to take back what is rightfully theirs. No matter the cost.

I love Nordic noir and this is for me the perfect example. Set in northern Sweden the chilling setting is bleak and remote which also describes our protagonist, Liv's, life perfectly. Why does she stay with the vile man that is her father? What secrets do this family hide?

"There is always a way out, even if it doesn't lead anywhere."

This is beautifully written, full of atmospheric descriptions that place the reader right in the middle of the scene. With a cast of interesting and complex characters that accompany the reader through this twisty turny , chillingly dark journey towards an ending that I truly did not see coming.I
Wrap up warm because you will feel the chills!
