I found this to be a delightful book, although rather disturbing at times, and one which is hard to classify within any genre I've previously read.

The story is about a family who has the opportunity to escape to another planet to avoid dying from a comet which is about to collide with earth. To do this they have to be kept in frozen during the journey. The heroine of the story wakes to find that when they arrive at the new planet, hundreds of years in the future, she is the only one who remembers the old world. The ship is now governed by The Collective, who are adamant that all memories of Earth must be obliterated so that their new lives can begin.

The author managers to skillfully mix some scary and believable science fiction with some beautiful storytelling, whilst still subtly putting across some strong messages, including how we need to value and protect our planet and the power of words and stories and what makes us human.

I believe the book was aimed at a YA audience but I think it is suitable for any age, apart from very young children who may find sections frightening or difficult to process emotionally.
