I really enjoyed this book, perhaps a bit to young adult for me but a fun read nonetheless.

The story begins as a comet approaches Earth, but there is prior warning and there are a series of spaceships set to leave Earth with selected people on board. These people will be put to sleep in special sleep pods for 400 years, with monitors, who will live out their lives on the spaceships, with several generations following until they arrive on the planet they'll eventually make their home on.

But *spoiler alert*, as they jump onto the ship the barriers around it are breached and desperate people swarm into the compound to try to make it onto the ship. Petra's ship manages to make it off the ground, but one is left behind. The one left behind has the 'leaders' of the new planet on it... and the monitors realise they are more than just worker bees, they can now carve their own future. As Petra is put to sleep, something goes wrong with her 'memory inserts' and, when she wakes up 400 years later, the 'Collective' run the ships and she's the only person who remembers Earth.

What comes next is futuristic but thrilling at the same time!
