A fantastically woven dystopian story which would be perfect study material for young readers.

Despite being a young adult novel, I found it very easy to get involved in the story. The main character Petra and her family are exceptionally likeable individuals for from the outset.

I love how the author is able to weave in themes that are important in todays society such as the relevance and significance of story telling, memories and heritages. The story is like a modern parable which is scarily relatable in a world that is increasingly neglecting funding in the arts and humanities in order to push ‘useful’ and ‘progressive’ subjects such as science and technology. The book provides a scary but heart warming narrative about the value of our past, our culture, our crafts and despite heartbreak and loss we can remain hopeful if we are true to ourselves even when we feel alone. The book shows that friends can become family even when brought together in such unexpected circumstances. I love the hopeful message of this book, that even when all appears lost, an individual has the power to make a different when they live though actions that are true to themselves.

I very much recommend this heartwarming tale.
