The last Storyteller by Donna Barba Higuera is an amazing story set in the distant and not too distant future. Halley's comet finally comes to close to the earth after being knocked off course. Petra and her family are chosen with one week to go to board one of 3 spaceships from America, sent into deep space to colonise a new world.
Petra's parents are both scientists and Petra and her brother are to follow in their footsteps.
Set to sleep for a few hundred years they would wake up in time to start a new life on the new planet.
However the human monitors chosen to watch over them start a new government and change the meaning of the voyage.
When Petra is woken she is to learn that her family have been woken at different times and are now dead. She has to hide her memories and sets out to save the last few remaining humans from Earth.
I really enjoyed this novel, the way the future and far off future are woven together by stories. It is very well written and Petra is a likeable character.
I would highly recommend this book.
