Such a beautifully written story of family, I read this in two sittings as I really couldn't put it down.
The Last Storyteller is demographically a young adult novel which explores the power of family and ancestry. When Petra comes out of stasis almost 400 years in the future, Earth has been consumed by a comet and a new 'collective' has started exploration of the planet Sagan, hoping to create a habitable environment. Petra quickly discovers she is the only human that remembers Earth and her past, including the stories told to her by her grandmother Lita and passed down through many generations. Petra must work with the collective to find home on Sagan, all the while maintaining her secret knowledge, sharing stories with only those she can trust in the hopes of triggering their own memories.
The author creates such wonderful imagery of an unknown future interspersed with magical stories told by Lita. The mix of Sci-fi and folklore works surprisingly well and Petra is a likeable and strong female lead. My only want from this book is a sequel!
