Firstly, this book has such an eye-catching design - aimed at middle readers and following the adventure packed story of Petra, this novel is a science fiction fest with some lovely depth, and some really beautifully written moments. I mean the idea of a last storyteller is as emotive as it gets! Imagine! It's a book about the future, hope, memories and change.
It's a diverse read for younger readers, with great discussion points and important messages to reflect upon. It's also a really entertaining story - I'm not sure what the best age would be for the reader, perhaps eight plus?
If you'd like a book about destruction, hope, rebuilding, adapting and reflecting on the lessons of the past to rebuild a future, then check out The Last Storyteller - I don't think you'll be disappointed. It would work great in the classroom as there are so many project and reflection ideas.
