Nowadays we are all anticipating the end of the world which we expect will be caused by pandemics, wars or global warming, in this story the earth is about to be destroyed by a comet. It is 2061 and technology has enabled man to be clever enough to build gigantic spaceships that contain pods that will keep people alive for hundreds of years while the spaceship searches out a new planet for human life to start again on.
The start of the story finds the main character, a twelve year old girl named Petra about to board one such space craft with her parents and younger brother. Once on the spacecraft they are all placed in individual pods where their bodies are fed with chemicals that will keep them alive until they reach the new planet. This travelling time is estimated to take nearly four hundred earth years. But Petra soon realises that something is not right with her equipment. This means that her body does not shut down straight away and she can hear what is going on outside her pod. She soon realises that the spaceship has suffered some sort of mutiny and when she does finally go to sleep , she wonders if she will ever see her family again.
