I picked this one up after I saw the stunning cover, but the story did not disappoint. This may be a relatively short read (at just over 300 pages), but it is jam packed with lyrical, gorgeous prose and high stakes action. The cuentos (stories) that are sprinkled throughout the book are lovely to read and I adored how the book highlights the importance of having these and passing them down through the generations. The insight into Spanish culture is fascinating. Whilst the beginning of the story is full of hope, it is also tinged with grief as the settlers leave their world and family/friends behind. This is amplified with terror when Petra is placed into the stasis pod and the story takes off from there. Petra is a wonderful character and is so strong for such a young individual. She never loses hope even through the dark moments. A great read.
