I found this to be a delightful book, although rather disturbing at times, and one which is hard to classify. It is certainly different.

The store is about a family who has the opportunity to escape to another planet to avoid almost certain death from a comet which is about to collide with earth. To do this they have to be kept in statis. The heroine of the story, Petra, wakes to find that when they arrive at the new planet, hundreds of years in the future, she is the only one who remembers the old world. The ship is now governed by The Collective, who are adamant that all memories of Earth must be obliterated. Petra is determined not to let this happen and to be the last storyteller who can help people remember their beautiful planet Earth.

The author managers to skillfully mix some scary and believable science fiction with some beautiful storytelling, whilst still subtly putting across some strong messages, including how we need to value and protect our planet and the power of words and stories and what makes us human.

I loved the character of Petra. She is strong minded yet still feels fear and relies on memories and advice from her grandmother, who she heartbreakingly had to leave behind on earth, to guide her.

I believe the book was aimed at young adults but I think is more than suitable for any age, apart from young children who may find sections rather frightening.
Would thoroughly recommend.
