Who we are when we are alive and what and who we leave behind are key concepts in this novel, played out through the characters of Jonathan Coulter's three children, who are required to bond if they are ever to obtain their father's inheritance. The mysterious circumstances surrounding people's will, such as who are included and who are excluded is again always a topical matter, and the mystery surrounding Coulter's offspring and their lifelong rivalry makes for an entertaining preface.
